Politics - Times are Changing #StopSB4

Trump is officially in office.

He has done multiple things already in his first month in office. Most of them include an increase in hate mongering and discrimination among Americans. The most recent change dubbed the "muslim ban" has forbid anyone of middle eastern descent to cross into american borders regardless of citizenship or status. This ban has been followed up by many other awkward bills such as the Senate Bill 4 . This bill will give campus police and police in the state of Texas the right to screen any seemingly anyone not white or black for immigration status.

"Anti-immigrant bills like Senate Bill 4 by Senator Charles Perry enable racial profiling, and someone like my father, an undocumented person of color, could be at risk of being asked about his immigration status by local law enforcement. Senate Bill 4 requires local law enforcement officers to verify a person’s immigration status, even though they are not trained to do so and this puts people like my parents at serious risk of landing in immigration proceedings and being torn from their loved ones." - Karla Perez

If deemed "illegal" or given the slightest impression of illegal possibilities the officers and their department would have legal reason to initiate a deport and do whatever they have to to either prove their theory or remove the immigrant from the country. This sounds good to make sure that less illegal people make it into our systems so that as many resources as possible can go to the people already in the states legally that need it. However, in our recent times many of our policemen are very unprofessional and eager to act like jackasses. Giving even just a handful of guys power like this will increase mistrust in our justice system and ignite the same fire from 2015 if taken advantage of. We disapprove. Too many people are already susceptible to hate crimes by the police. It is understandable that border control is important however, harming innocent people or creating a ruckus for people already thriving in our community is pointless in our eyes.

Senate Bill 4 will actively affect even students currently enrolled in colleges in the area of affect. It will give policemen the right to harass and detain innocent people accordingly.
